Beautiful shots! It all looks gorgeous. Love the idea of the Bridal Room.
Wow. I have never had an experience like this before in my entire life. I had the opportunity to be a witness.
Me. A witness! Seriously, do I have the world’s greatest job or what?!
Teresa and Rob’s wedding was my 338th wedding, and never in the previous 337 weddings have I had the opportunity to be a witness!
On Valentine’s Day, at the restaurant La Caille, Rev. Anita Gordon officiated over a very private ceremony and I was asked to be one of the witnesses and sign their marriage license! Wow. I don’t know that I’ve ever been so honored. It was cold and freezing, and absolutely worth it! We started off by taking pictures around the February grounds around La Caille…

I do have a strict rule of no alcohol for Pepper while I shoot. Ever. Do you want your pictures in focus? That’s what I thought. Anyway, Teresa and Rob insisted on sharing a bottle of champagne before the ceremony, and this one time, I made an exception. Hey, I’m a witness!

After sharing a drink and signing the license, we headed out to La Caille’s Lower Patio for the ceremony! I’ve done many MANY ceremonies on this Lower Patio, but this was the first time where i could just walk around front, no guests to worry about standing in front of! It was really fun!

Wow. Thank you both again, for sharing such a beautiful day with us. We were absolutely honored. Congratulations!!!

I am SO sorry for not posting at all last week except for my weekly Album Monday column. Please know that if I don’t post for a little while, it is because things got so busy and so crazy that I just couldn’t. My priorities are, in this order, family, brides, taxes, blog. And if my family or my brides or my accountant needs my time, it the blog stalkers who suffer.
In addition to having a fun shooting week, it is also tax time. I am very pleased to say that I am now DONE with my taxes!!! But it did mean that I spent about 20 hours this week going through things with my bookkeeper and explaining things and pouring over bank statements. Moving forward we won’t have to do that anymore, which is awesome, but it did mean that all of my sweet blog posts I had planned for last week didn’t get posted!!
So, to make up for it, a guaranteed full week of posts! You get a blog post! You get a blog post! Everybody gets a blog post! Technically it’ll be 8 posts in a row, counting Monday the 19th too! So enough with the apologies, you know I still love ya, and let’s take a look at today’s Album Monday column!

GROOMS CAKES! What a BLAST these cakes can be. It really can be an entertaining day when Carrie gets to use her creativity and make a delicious work of art! Grooms these days are enjoying wedding more and more and really not afraid to give their input! It is a common occurrence to have the groom ask for his own cake. OR for the bride to get him one as a surprise. This way when everything in the wedding is typically “girly” and feminine he can have his own masculine domain!
The Lord Of The Rings was a VERY popular movie with Carrie and her family so it worked out perfect when we were asked to create grooms cake! It is a complete scene with wizards, hobbits and Tree-beard. When your considering a grooms cake think of what his absolute favorite thing is, and you can be creative with it.
We have made fish wearing tuxedos, moose with a sign the said “Trophy wife” (obviously for the hunter) and even a cow with a Santa Hat on. Enjoy this day and spoil the groom too!

I just can’t get over how much I love this cake!. The coolest cake I’ve ever seen- I just can’t believe how awesome it is! When I get married I am totally going to hire Carrie’s Cakes to do a LOTR cake for me too.
That has got to be coolest cake I have ever seen.
My opinions CHANGE every other day.. I am probably the most inconsistent person you will ever meet. One day I love the very traditional stacked cakes that are all white on white and the next day I LOVE the unusual and funky cakes. I have a rather difficult job, because I see so many fun ideas and the brides are always changing things around… One bride will come for a consultation and I will absolutely be IN LOVE with the entire idea of her wedding and really excited for her and the next bride will come and tell me her ideas and I fall IN LOVE with that too! I guess it’s a darn good thing I am already married, if I had to choose a style now I would be in big trouble!
The reason I say all of this is because of the cake photo below. It just really appeals to me, I am a BIG gardener! Flowers are some of my most favorite things in the ENTIRE world. When I saw the photo of the weaved baskets full of different types of flowers I just thought THAT’S IT! That is my favorite cake! Aparently the bride, Leslie and I have a lot in common.
Carrie made this look with three separate cakes and did a basket-weave look on the side, these baskets look just like you would see in a french country side garden! And then we filled each round cake with the same style of flowers that the bride was using in her bouquet (made by Every Blooming Thing) … And to finish the look of the “basket” we made handles out of gumpaste and attached them… CLASSY! This was another wedding we did at LaCaille so we added the grapes, LaCaille has the best french food and wine in town!

Thank you yet again PEPPER NIX for the fantastic shots of this wedding. It is always incredible to be able to see the whole thing all tied together!

Swensen Photography sent us a wedding to put on the La Caille Blog! Yeah! Amourette and Douglas were married in September of last year. They had their ceremony on the lower patio, and their reception was in the garden room. Carries Cakes and Sax Romney Floral did a fab job on the floral decor and cake!

Quyen & BJ’s fabulous day concludes with a kick-ass party, dinner for 190 guests at the world-famous La Caille Restaurant, and dancing until dawn with a Club DJ from Seattle.
Can I be honest?
IT ROCKED.
Colby Su of C3 Design and Sean Oviatt of Sax Romney Floral were the first to be called in to transform the space into Quyen’s vision of the day.
They made these massive lanterns constructed with bamboo and then hung them throughout the Grand Pavilion. Centerpieces and table decor were kept to a minimum since all the guests would be served family style and the room was needed to hold the platters of food coming in!

Sean from Sax Romney also designed and constructed this custom seating chart holder, also out of bamboo. This way guests upon entering the Pavilion, were easily able to find their name and which table they were assigned to sit at.

Each place setting was accompanied with chopsticks for the custom menu La Caille served that night. I was surprised because La Caille is so famous for its classical French cooking, but in speaking with the chef I was told that although they do specialize in French cooking, they are accomplished chefs and can adapt the menu to the bride’s needs. Quyen wanted Asian cuisine, so that is what he guests received!

A unique favor from Salt Lake City…

The bridal party choreographed the entire Grand Entrance, with chest bumps, high-fives, and a mock photo shoot by the groom [who strangely enough did not actually have a camera in his hand - I think I'll have to take him aside later on and explain how its supposed to work....]

This cake was so gorgeous and so delicate and understated in it’s beauty, great job Carrie!

Dinner went smoothly, and then the toasts/roasts began! Have I mentioned before how talented this family is at making me almost wet myself?

Guests were served a trio of desserts plus Wedding Cakes

Quyen & BJ had an incredible DJ spinning turntables, alcohol flowed freely, and everybody was on the dance floor. THAT is how to have an amazing party!

Thank you so much Quyen & BJ, it was an exquisite evening! A big thank you to all of the vendors who worked their butts off to make it such a spectacular event to photograph!

Wow. If you thought the morning Tea Ceremony was awesome, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Quyen and BJ spent almost a year planning this spectacular and emotional event, and it showed. No detail was left to chance, nothing was forgotten. And the bride was exquisite.
After the morning ceremony and the delicious lunch that followed [I must thank Quyen's family for insisting that we eat, and to her sisters who got up at 4am to make all that delicious food for so many people!], everyone headed on over to the restaurant La Caille to get ready for Quyen & BJ’s second wedding ceremony!
Quyen and all of her bridesmaids spent the afternoon relaxing in La Caille’s Brides Room, drinking champagne and getting their hair and makeup done by fabulous Anna K Style. [Disclosure: I hired Anna K to do my hair and makeup for my own wedding a few years ago, and while I can vouch that she is amazing, I will be the first to admit that I'm probably biased - I've never felt so pretty in my life!]
BJ sent the bride a gift of diamond earrings and a card that made everyone cry…

This was SO much fun for me! So this is Thy & Tyler, Quyen’s beautiful sister and her husband. I shot their wedding 5 YEARS AGO!!! Have I really been doing this for so long?! Isn’t their little boy Hieu just the cutest little man?! He’s only a few months older than my son, so it was like looking into the future. Whatever Hieu was getting into, that would be my life in about 3 months!

A fun take on the old tradition of tossing petals; instead, leave an entire flower every few steps, brilliant!

Every time I see this series I tear up. I have a daddy, and I love my daddy so much, and it’s wonderful to be able to see how much Quyen loves her daddy too…

Stay tuned, the reception is unforgettable…
Love, Pepper

We then caught the sunset at La Caille, this being the last week of October I was surprised to see that we still had so many leaves on the trees!

Coming soon, their wedding in the snow!!!

WHEW! This blogging everyday thing is harder than I thought! It’s easy for me today though… We can’t go outside and enjoy the weather, It’s SNOWING! I don’t know why this surprises me it is February in Utah.. I’m thinking too bad I don’t ski or snow board! LOL hmm, OH well… I chose one of our most popular cake to show today, honestly it might just be THE most ordered cake. I should look into that :0)
Anyway, just by looking at the pictures you can see why it’s so widely popular, it has beautiful diamond white fondant, with matching ribbon and dots. This wedding cake is so simple and elegant that no mater what style of wedding you have it will fit right in! And if you can’t tell by the photos this wedding was at La Caille as are so many of our weddings! It just has such an intriguing background for weddings.

Pepper Nix really caught the perfect “classic” bride moment in the photo above! Isn’t she gorgeous! It makes me wonder what was going through her mind? Well, I do know she was NOT worrying about her cake! :0)

Woo hoo, the first video clip up on the blog! This is from a Groomal shoot in early March [Groomals are where the groom comes to the bridal pre-wedding photo/video session] and you can see that the flowers are not yet out, but they still get some pretty amazing shots. Thank you for submitting this Nate!

BEAUTIFUL!
The bride’s room at La Caille is for Full year use, and we can see Kimi here getting ready for her July ceremony.
The Bride’s room can fit 6 people very comfortably, or a dozen changing bridesmaids being a bit tight!
Brides are welcome to come early in the day, and meet with their on-site makeup artists and hair people to be able to relax before the ceremony. As always, La Caille provides complementary drinks [alcoholic or non-alcoholic] for all people in the bridal suite, as well as a fruit & cheese platter with some of La Caille’s famous chocolates!

Genesee and Alex held their daytime wedding reception in the Grand Pavilion in February.
Floral design and decor by the ever-fabulous Sax Romney, and the event was captured beautifully by Mitch Burt of ZumaPhoto. Great job guys!

Alex and Genesee were married in the Garden Room in February. The Garden Room is one of the more popular private rooms at La Caille, because of its size and the natural light that floods in from the windows and skylights. It is the perfect location for a winter ceremony, since the windows also provide a view of the snow covered grounds.

I have decided to blog about this wedding today because it is icky and wintry outside and nothing warms me up more than looking through summer wedding photos and imaging the sun on my back… ahhhhhh…. Lets sit back and imagine we’re at the wedding…
Doesn’t the Crisp blue sky in this photo just make you long for the sounds and sights of summer? I think that is why this wedding stuck out in my mind as one to blog about today. The Bride was Breeann and like so many of our brides she chose to have her wedding at La Caille.

Breeann’s main accent color was this beautiful bright purple and then Hillside Floral “popped” it with bright reds and yellows.
So this is exactly what we did with her wedding cake. Breeann loved the look of the four tier square, and to make it fit her style a little bit more we offset each tier. The finishing touches were her bright purple ribbon around the base of each square tier and then a feminine pale purple design.
We also made a chocolate wrapped grooms cake filled with Chocolate Dipped strawberries…. This cake looks so delicious I just might go get some strawberries!
Not every grooms cake has to be funny or themed after the grooms personality. Sometimes it can just be a great way to add that masculine effect to an otherwise feminine day.

Last summer I met with a bride named McKenna Quai, She was my FAVORITE kind of bride. She walked in to Carries knew exactly what style of cake she wanted, she new the colors and everything. I know it sounds like that takes all of the work out of it for me, BUT the truth is it is much less frustrateing for the bride if she has an idea in mind before she comes to us.
McKenna was really excited to order her cake! She pointed to a photo of the cake she liked and said “That’s it, I love that one.” The funniest part though was as soon as she ordered her wedding cake she wanted to talk grooms cakes. The first date McKenna and her fiance went on was to a Utah Jazz basketball game, so she asked us to make a chocolate cake with an “Old School” Jazz ball on top with her fiance’s last name instead of a Jazz players. It turned out AWESOME! It was so personalized just for him, I’m sure he loved it as much as she loved ordering it for him.
The cake McKenna ordered was a 5 tier square wedding cake with soft white fondant and a long draping bow the cascades down the front. It fit the venue perfect, the wedding reception was at La Caille.

In order to try to achieve my goal of a cake a day I had to ask a lot of our photographer friends to send in photos of our cakes. Kate Jeppsen of Jeppsen Studios was one of the first to help out and sent these photos to us. BIG THANK YOU! Kate the photos are beautiful!
I am not positive who did the flowers for this wedding, as soon as I find out I’ll let you know.

Congratulations and best wishes to you both!by carrie

Here’s the details:

La Caille weddings are always so fun because the pavilion can take on any style and any look when you bring in the bride and grooms personality. Being in a room surrounded by incredible botanical elements really helps for the bride who wants to have the flowers be a huge focal point.

One of the Cakes that made Carrie as popular as she is is her chocolate box cake. Carrie created a way of taking a three tier square cake and wrapping the white chocolate around the cake it’s self so that the cake has a “shelf” for the flowers to sit in. Again a way for you to show off your flowers. I think Sax Romney did a fantastic job filling the “Box Cakes” with beautiful fresh roses and petals.

And don’t forget to let you grooms personality shine with a fun Baseball themed Grooms Cake. As you can see from the photo below this groom LOVE’S Baseball so we created him his out little “sugar field.”
